What fun to come back to your blog after a week away and see so many lovely posts. My girls were entranced by all the photos of your parents' new place. I think if I had your french green beans recipe they might even eat them!!!

MS, that asparagus/green bean dish is one of my usual no-recipe concoctions: Throw together colorful veggies you think The Sweeties would eat. Blanch asparagus or fresh green beans, and don't worry about whether they're haricot vers (you might even use frozen; just don't use mushy canned stuff). Who doesn't love roasted red peppers, and they're easy out of a jar. For marinade/dressing, you can make your own vinaigrette or go the easy route with a bottled Italian dressing. Some cherry tomatoes. A little cheese. Kumquats or not.

Dani, you're from OH? Tell me, as a native, is the correct pronunciation Galla-"pa-LISS" or Galla-"po-lice"? Not sure either of those looks like what I'm trying to convey, but I'll bet you could set me straight.

Diva and Dani, in FL, you may have all those gorgeous heirloom tomatoes and other fresh veggies way ahead of the rest of us. But there's something to be said for the luscious green farther north up here that stands out in a certain way only after a hard-fought winter. Fleeting, but restorative . . .

I say it with the Liss, and that comes from some one who was born and raised there.

My mom is flying down to spend the summer with us and then in August we'll be driving her home. It'll be so nice to show Elizabeth the river and grandma's house out in the hollow. I have family in Point Pleasant WV too that we'll get to see. Miss the family being so far away.
